There may be a different or better way to set up a Mac-centric FT8 configuration, but this setup is working nicely, however, a lot of my conclusions were reached by trial and error. This guide can also be used to get the IC-9100, and likely other similar rigs with internal USB connections, working smoothly with any OS X amateur radio application using only that USB connection.
